Methodology

We analyzed 50 of the UK’s biggest towns and cities on the following six factors, giving each place a normalized score out of 100 for each one, before taking an average final score across all six factors.

Median Annual Earnings

The median annual earnings according to the Office for National Statistics’ Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (Table 8.7a).

Median Basic Hours Worked

The median number of basic hours worked according to the Office for National Statistics’ Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (Table 8.10a).

Median Overtime Hours Worked

The median number of overtime hours worked according to the Office for National Statistics’ Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (Table 8.11a).

Average Happiness Score
